Delma Barber Aven Obituary

In loving memory of Delma Barber Aven (Oxford, Mississippi), who departed this world on December 22, at the age of Delma Barber leaves behind a legacy remembered by family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

As Delma Barber departs from this earthly realm, her essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Delma Barber may no longer walk beside us, her spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Delma Barber leaves behind.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Forest Barber and Ora Harvey Barber; her sister Myra Barber; and her son Anson Aven. She is survived by: her husband Russell; her daughter Debra Swartzendruber (John); and her granddaughters, Abbey and Gracie Swartzendruber.

Memorials may be given to Gideons International, First Baptist Church of Oxford, or donor's choice.

Hotel Del Coronado &#; Oxford Building

The Hotel Del Coronado’s Oxford Building is a historic building renovation, with a design focused on the user’s day to day needs and bring the building back to life. The Oxford has a very fascinating past. Having been originally built in as the first hotel on the Island to house executives involved with the construction of the Hotel Del. The building was moved twice. First from near the Ferry Landing on 1st Street to Ynez Place where it served as boarding for female employees of the Hotel Del. In , the Oxford was purchased by the Hotel Del’s owner at the time for $1 and a few years later found its current home in the Industrial Area on property. For the past 30 plus years, it has served as administrative offices for the hotel.

With the Master Plan re-working the main entry drive to the hotel, the Oxford has become one of if not the first building visitors see as they approach the famed Victorian hotel. The exterior of the building was painted back to its historic color scheme thanks to paint scrapings and photographic evidence.
